Professor Jag Dhanda

Jag Dhanda is a UK trained consultant Oral and Maxillofacial / Head and Neck Surgeon and a Professor of Surgery with a specialist interest in head and neck cancer and dental implants. He has multiple awards including a recent President’s Prize for his research on head and neck cancer. He is the only UK surgeon to have obtained the college, specialty and faculty research fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and he is the programme director for the PGCert PGDip programme in Dental Implant Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Brighton Medical School.

Jag started his dental implant training in 2002 with short courses and has subsequently had further exposure to surgical aspects of implant dentistry during his higher surgical training. This training includes the placement of implants in the entire facial skeleton as well as dental implants and the placement of implants in facial deformity, traumatic facial injury and cancer reconstruction. He is one of the highest volume providers of dental implants in the UK and regularly runs courses for dentists including hands-on and live surgery. He is able to offer both surgical and restorative aspects of implant treatment for single teeth, multiple teeth and bridges, as well as full arch reconstruction and implant retained dentures. He is also able to offer all bone grafting procedures including guided bone regeneration, sinus lifts and zygomatic implants. With 23 years of training, he is one of the highest trained dental implant surgeons in the UK.

Professor Dhanda leads the research group Virtual Reality in Medicine and Surgery and has an active research group with over £2.5 million in research funds and grants. His work included scientific evaluation of extended reality in surgical education and clinical trials using augmented reality. He is developing techniques to train surgeons from low to middle income countries and regularly hosts live streaming courses in the UK, Africa and India to train surgeons in all the surgical disciplines.
