What are dental bridges?
A dental bridge is a fixed solution for replacing one or more missing teeth. It literally “bridges” the gap by attaching a realistic replacement tooth to the teeth on either side of the space. Unlike a denture, a bridge is not removable, and there’s no plate covering the gums — it looks, feels, and functions just like your natural teeth. Bridges restore your smile, make chewing and speaking easier, and help maintain the shape of your face by preventing surrounding teeth from drifting out of position.
Who are dental bridges suitable for?
Dental bridges are ideal for patients who have lost a tooth but prefer not to wear a removable denture. They’re a good choice if the teeth on either side of the gap are strong enough to support the bridge. If you can’t tolerate a denture or don’t want implant surgery, a bridge can be an excellent, long-lasting alternative. Your dentist will discuss all suitable options, including implants and dentures, to find the best solution for your needs.
How do dental bridges work?
To create a bridge, the supporting teeth on either side of the gap are prepared so that they can hold the replacement tooth securely in place. In some cases, this means placing crowns over the supporting teeth; in others, a more conservative approach such as an adhesive bridge (which bonds to the back of the tooth) may be suitable.

Once prepared, we take a precise digital scan of your teeth and the gap. This scan is sent to our dental laboratory, where your bridge is carefully designed and crafted to match your natural teeth in colour, shape, and bite. The result is a seamless, comfortable restoration that blends beautifully with your smile.

How long does it take to make a dental bridge?
The initial preparation appointment typically takes up to 90 minutes. Your new bridge is then custom-made by our laboratory and fitted about two weeks later, in a visit lasting around 30–40 minutes. Once fitted, your dentist will check your bite and provide advice on caring for your bridge to ensure it lasts for many years.
How much do dental bridges cost?
The cost of a dental bridge depends on the number of teeth being replaced and the materials used. As a guide, bridges start from around £2,800 for private patients and £2,000 for Dental Subscribers. A full treatment plan and quotation will always be provided before any treatment begins.
