What are dental x-rays?
Dental x-rays are an important diagnostic tool that allow us to see what’s happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums. They help our dentists detect early signs of decay, infections, and bone loss linked to gum disease — often before any discomfort appears. Alongside the small, routine x-rays taken during check-ups, we also use several advanced imaging techniques to give a clearer picture of your oral health.

Panoramic (OPG) X-ray:

A panoramic x-ray captures your entire mouth — teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures — in one continuous image. You simply stand still while the digital scanner moves gently around your head, producing a detailed overview that helps identify wider dental or jaw issues.

CBCT (3D Cone Beam Scan):

A CBCT scan provides a 3D image of a selected area of your mouth or jaw. This advanced technology is especially useful for dental implant planning, assessing bone levels, and examining root positions and sinus anatomy with precision.

Cephalometric X-ray:

For patients considering orthodontic treatment, a cephalometric x-ray offers a side view of the head, showing how the upper and lower jaws relate to each other and to the skull. These detailed measurements help our orthodontists plan treatment effectively. If you need this type of x-ray, we’ll refer you to our sister practice, Ferring Dental Practice, where the specialist imaging equipment is available.

We’re also pleased to accept referrals from other dental practices for any of these x-ray services, helping colleagues access high-quality diagnostic imaging for their patients.
