Ever thought of being a Dental Nurse?
At this time of year as young people finish their exams and wonder what to do next we wanted to put out the idea that you or someone you know might consider a career as a dental nurse.
If you like caring for people and working as an essential member of a great team then dental nursing might be for you. Over the last few years, we have had the privilege of assisting in the training a number of dental nurses, some fresh from college and some changing careers. In the hope of finding more of the same we are holding an open recruitment evening at Abbots Lodge Dental Practice where there will be a chance to hear from course tutors, recent graduates and more experienced nurses as well as ask any questions about a career in dental nursing. You will also have the chance to see around the practice and see what it’s like in a state-of-the-art dental practice from the point of view of a team member.
What to expect on the Evening?
At the start of the session there will be several talks which will cover what it’s like to be a trainee dental nurse and what’s included in a dental nursing course.
We will talk about the opportunities that will be open to you to progress your career once you have qualified as a Dental Care Professional (DCP) and registered with the General Dental Council (GDC)
Lesley Hobbs- Tutor of the NEBDN Dental Nursing Course.
Lesley has been a tutor of the NEBDN dental nursing course at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College for almost 10 years. Prior to teaching, she worked for many years as dental nurse herself and a practice manager, gaining a variety of skills within dentistry and has seen the industry change and grow.
Lesley will be talking about what it entails to undertake the dental nurse course, how long the course is and what you could learn during that time.
Katie Standing – Newly Qualified Dental Nurse.
Katie has recently qualified as a dental nurse, she has trained with us over the last 18 months whilst undertaking the course with Lesley . Katie will be talking to you about what it’s like to take undertake the course and how she has progressed as a newly qualified dental nurse and the benefits of undertaking this new career path.
Sarah Person – Qualified Dental Nurse, Studying Higher Education
Sarah trained with us as a dental nurse a few years ago. When she qualified she decided that she wanted to progress a career and go into further education, she is currently studying at Inverness University to qualify as a dental therapist. She will be joining us for the open evening to talk about what your potential career opportunities may be once you become a qualified dental nurse and why she decided to go forward to become a dental therapist.
What’s it like to work in a Dental environment?
Following on from the talks you have the opportunity to see the practice, where we have newly refurbished surgeries with state-of-the-art technology. We want you to be able to talk to other staff members, such as lead nurses and managers that were previously dental nurses and how they have advanced their careers. There will also be Dentists on site that want to be able to talk to you about why they value dental nurses support so much and what great career progression it can lead to.
At our Dental Practices we feel very passionate about providing bespoke care for the community, and one of the ways we provide this is down to the amazing team we have.
