What are same day crowns?
Sometimes teeth break — and it’s usually not because of anything dramatic, just years of wear and tear. Often a heavily filled tooth becomes weaker over time until, one day, a small crack turns into a bigger break while you’re enjoying something as ordinary as breakfast. The good news is that it doesn’t have to mean the end of your smile or comfort.
With modern digital technology, we can restore your tooth in a single visit using a same day crown. A crown (also called a cap) completely covers the remaining part of your tooth, protecting it from further damage and restoring its strength, shape, and natural appearance — all within one appointment.
Who are same day crowns suitable for?
Same day crowns are ideal for patients whose teeth are too damaged or weakened for a simple filling. If a tooth has fractured, cracked, or lost a large portion of its structure, a crown provides durable, full-coverage protection that allows you to bite and smile confidently again.
How does a same day crown work?
Your dentist will first gently prepare the tooth under local anaesthetic to make sure you’re completely comfortable. Instead of taking traditional impressions, we use advanced 3D digital scanning to capture an exact image of your tooth.
The crown is then designed digitally and precision-milled on site using ceramic materials that mimic the colour and translucency of natural enamel. Once glazed and polished, your custom crown is bonded securely in place — no messy impressions, no temporary crown, and no need for a second visit. It’s convenient, efficient, and beautifully natural-looking.
How long does a same day crown appointment take?
Creating and fitting your same day crown takes around two hours from start to finish. You can leave the practice with your permanent restoration completed the very same day — strong, functional, and ready to smile with.
How much does a same day crown cost?
A same day crown costs £1,200 for private patients, and £790 for Dental Subscription members. Your dentist will confirm the exact cost before treatment begins and explain all options available to you.
